When I read the family memories, I realised there was so much that I didn't know about my brother.
I went abroad to lead a new life when Martin was 15, and so saw one another on a handful of occasions over the next 50 years.
When Martin and Maureen came to Nanaimo to celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary, I had written to my parents to say that I really didn't know Martin, and about the same time he had said the same thing about me. My mother told both of us that we would find a loving, caring sibling. She was so right.
Although we had grown apart over the years, he is still my little brother. His last words to me earlier this year were, " Now, Pat, no tears. I will see you sometime, somewhere. "
Au Revoir Martin. Love Pat

You’ve Just Walked On Ahead of Me
And I’ve got to understand
You must release the ones you love
And let go of their hand.
I try and cope the best I can
But I’m missing you so much
If I could only see you
And once more feel your touch.
Yes, you’ve just walked on ahead of me
Don’t worry I’ll be fine
But now and then I swear I feel
Your hand slip into mine.

You can shed tears that he is gone
Or you can smile because he has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
